Colourpop Lippie Stix Review

5 Jul

Bonjour, my pretties.

I’ve always been a fan of Colourpop because the astounding quality in their products always gives you the best bang for your buck. Recently, I ordered seven of their Lippiestix and it couldn’t have been a better decision.

The names of the shades can be found on the bottom

The first thing that caught my eye was the simple, minimalist white packaging of these lippiestix.  Something about this less is more packaging makes them stand out among my makeup collection. As you can see, not all of the lippiestix have the same texture; some are matte, matte X, glossy, and satin. Matte X simply stands for Ultra matte. My favorites are the matte and matte X’s because of their high color payoffs. The glossy and satin types are more on the sheer spectrum, though they have wonderful coverage also.

One reason that makes these an irresistible buy is that they only cost $5 each and you get free shipping with a $30 purchase. New members also receive a coupon for $5 off. So if you buy seven, like I did, you spend $30 and get the free shipping. It’s great for makeup lovers who are on a tight budget.

Here are the swatches on my fair complexion. As you can see, Bound is quite sheer because it’s a glossy type. Frida and Fetch, both of which are satin types, have a shinier finish.

Results: I wore these on a typical sunny day and was amazed to discover that they stayed put for a loonnggggg time. This is both good and bad. Good in that the color never leaves my lips; bad in that my makeup remover will only do half the job because this product really does stain your lip. If you’re looking to over-line your lips, I would suggest using the matte X shades because their richness are able to hide your lip edges better.

As for eating and drinking, they do leave prints on the rims of glasses and you’ll have to reapply after each meal. I learned the hard way to not order burgers while wearing these because opening wide to take a bite of my cheeseburger caused color from my bottom lip to smudge onto my chin. Since these are super hard to remove, I had to walk around with a red blotch on my face. Not cool.

So yes, don’t eat large foods when you’re wearing these.

Besides that, these are great for the price and color payoffs. My favorite color so far is Cami, a lightweight nude apropos for almost every occasion. I find myself reaching for this shade a lot.

Sephora Play May 2017!

21 May

Come with me to explore all the goodies I got this month from Sephora’s makeup subscription.

img_8958

It’s like a monthly pick me up!

This month’s box adopted the theme The Rising Stars. The bag design strayed away from the regular drawstring style and took the shape of a plastic square instead. Additionally, they included some extra tips and tricks on their monthly brochure, which is definitely a sign that they’re trying to spice things up.

img_8964

1. Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser

img_8995

Yesssssss. I’ve been eyeing Sunday Riley for some time now and always hesitated to make the purchase. Now, I can finally get a feel for their products before drawing a conclusion on whether or not to add them to my skincare collection. Can’t wait to slip this into my routine later tonight!

2. Nudestix Magnetic Matte Lip Color in Greystone

img_8998

Meh. Although I’m a fan of Nudestix, I’m not too excited about this dark brown shade being paired with my yellow undertones, since it would most likely clash and result in my looking like a zombie from Walking Dead. Therefore, I’ll probably stash this in my eyeshadow section.

3. Grande Lips Lip Plumper in Clear

img_8999

Am I the only one who thinks that this brand is started by the singer Ariana Grande? Well, after checking the brand page from Sephora, it’s not. Instead, it was founded by Alicia Grande, who may or may not be related to her? Who knows. I’m not really a fan of plumpers ever since I tried the one from Too Faced and ended up with my lips on fire. But, still going to give this a chance.

4. Trestique Highlight Stick in Maldives Luminescent

img_8997

Yaaaaaassssss. Glow, baby! That’s what I’m talking about. Who can say no to highlighters? I can’t wait to apply this to my brow bones, bridge of my nose, above the cheeks, etc. to achieve that luxury effect on my face. Hopefully, this can beat Benefit’s Watt’s Up stick.

5. Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt

img_8996

I’m starting to see more of this brand lately. I’m not too keen about the plastic packaging that has yet to lure me into using it. The smell is good, however.

6. REPLICA Beach Walk

img_9001

And of course, the perfume choice of the month. A little spritz of this transformed my wrist with notes of flower, cedar-wood, and pepper. The scent is reminiscent of someone walking along the shores towards a beach house in the breezy Summer.

Overall, I would give this box a rating of 3 out of 5 stars. It’s not the best box I’ve received due to some of the shades and skincare products.

Sephora Play Subscription October, 2016

6 Nov

October is the month of spooks and scares; but for me, this was the month that I got accepted into medical school. I hope that when I become a doctor, I’ll still have the time to contour, blush, and highlight. Gotta look good during my rounds!

On another happy note, Christmas comes for me every month in the form of Ipsy and SephoraPlay. And I can’t express how happy and eager I become when I catch a glimpse of the glittery hot pink or black-and-white stripes.

October features the list of items that made the “Cool Cut,” which was the theme of this month’s box that included an even mix of skincare and makeup products. I used to loathe skincare products, believing that they comprised the bland aspect of the makeup spectrum. But now as I edge closer to the threats of fine lines and wrinkles, I’ve grown to appreciate the creamy jars of salvation. One word: moisturize.

img_7694

Upon opening the box, I was greeted by a small pouch that told me to “Lipstix and chill,” which is a fine mantra, indeed 🙂

img_7687

Christophe Robin Regenerating Mask with Rare Prickly Pear Seed Oil

This is a mask that you apply to your hair after shampooing. Then, you wait a while for the product to sink into your scalp and strands before rinsing off. I’m not a big fan of standing in the cold shower for 5 minutes while staring at the lines of my palms. So, hair masks are not my thing. But I should use them more considering the fact that my hair isn’t in the best silky condition.

img_7691

Smashbox Liquid Lipstick in Driver’s Seat

Yaaaassssssss. This is my shade! I love the soft pink. Not to mention that this stays on for quite a while. You can also tell that the formula is anything but cheap.

img_7689

Skin Inc. Pure Revival Peel

Fun fact: this is actually a Japanese brand. Normally when I hear the word peel I think of that old trick in elementary school where I covered my palms with a layer of glue – as evenly as I could – and waited for it to dry before I slowly, carefully peeled it off. When it comes to skincare, exfoliators are often not as fun as that memory…

img_7688

Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb

The first thing that stood out about this product was the packaging. If you remove the cap, it looks like a top hat by itself. I’m excited to add another one to my moisturizer collection.

img_7690

Blinc Mascara Amplified

A revolutionized mascara. While glancing over the description, I read something about “tube technology” in which the formula coats over each individual lash like a tube. Thheennn, the magic appears when it’s time to take it off. There’s NO makeup remover needed. That’s right! Because the individual “tubes” slide off when you press on your lashes with a cotton ball. The time has come to say goodbye to those dark smudges that always seem to rebel against my makeup remover.

img_7692

Yves Saint Laurent Mon Paris

Last but not least, the perfume for this month’s box. I pronounce this as Mon Pareeee… as if I’m a high-class, French socialite with 18 poodles and a fur coat because that’s the particular image painted by this fragrance. Oh, it’s musky alright, with a floral note.

And that concludes the SephoraPlay box for the month of October.

My question to you is: What do you do to pass that awkward time in the shower where you’re waiting for your hair mask/cream/conditioner to soak in? Please let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading!
